Policy and Assurance Advisor

This is an exciting role to contribute to key projects over the next 12 months. These projects include:

  • Policy and legislative reform work to support implementing recommendations of the Set the Standard Report.
  • Strategy development, negotiation and implementation of a replacement Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement for MOPS Act staff.
  • Establishment of the new Parliamentary Workplace Support Service to provide Human Resources (HR) support to parliamentarians and MoP(S) Act staff.

In this role, you will support the Director Policy and Assurance lead the Policy and Assurance Team in:

  • Providing advice on the MOPS Act employment framework, including the Enterprise Agreement and Enterprise Agreement Guidelines.
  • Preparing timely, high quality written material including on the MOPS Act employment framework for Minister's offices, senior executives, and committees.
  • Maintaining the online Ministerial and Parliamentary Services' guidance for parliamentarians and MOPS Act employees.
  • Facilitating external committee meetings, including leading the team's secretariat support for the MOPS Act staff consultative committee.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with various stakeholders. You will also have experience working in policy and legislative reform, preferably in a government agency.

As a successful candidate, you will contribute to developing strategic plans and policies that align with the Department's objectives. Your expertise in facilitating external committee meetings and providing advice on complex policy matters will be valuable assets to the team.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of the Australian Public Service and its policies, procedures, and guidelines. Additionally, your ability to communicate complex ideas simply and clearly will be essential in engaging with various stakeholders.
