Primary Care Physician Opportunity

As a primary care physician, you will provide essential medical care and support to Australian Defence Force (ADF) Members. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on the health and wellbeing of Defence members.

The role involves delivering primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures. You will also assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care supporting health and wellbeing pre- and post-deployments.

You will work closely with a team of Senior Medical Officers and uniformed colleagues to provide medical technical advice to the Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer, Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager, and unit Commanders.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Current, unconditional registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) OR Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) OR Vocational Registration.
  • Minimum of 2 years full-time post-graduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent).
  • Recent CPD activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance for this role.

This is a partnership opportunity with Bupa to provide integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force personnel across Australia, including 45+ on-base locations.

Location

Lavarack Health Centre is located in Townsville at Lavarack Barracks, offering primary medical, ambulatory care, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, mental health, pharmaceutical care, and a 24/7 inpatient ward.
