Geotechnical Risk Management and Fieldwork Opportunity

Job Description

This hands-on role provides a chance to gain experience in geotechnical risk management and fieldwork, working with a leading gold producer. As a Vacation Student - Engineer Geotechnical, you will participate in site inspections and audits, maintain and update visual risk communication tools, and support rock sampling and testing programs under supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to identify and document geotechnical hazards.
  • Maintain and update visual risk communication tools to ensure effective hazard identification and mitigation.
  • Support rock sampling and testing programs under the supervision of experienced professionals.
  • Contribute to back-analysing rockfalls and slope failures using site data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on geotechnical observations and findings.
  • Engage in safety training, toolbox talks, and ground awareness sessions with site teams.
  • Collect data for geotechnical models, designing and analysing open pit and underground excavations, monitoring conditions, assessing risks, and collaborating with teams across Mining Engineering, Geology, Surveying, and TSF.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current enrolment in a Bachelor's degree such as Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geology, or similar.
  • Experience with relevant software and systems through studies or placements (preferred).
  • Ability to uphold high work standards and build strong relationships with peers and leaders.
  • Capacity to work independently to meet personal and team goals.
  • A valid manual driver's licence.
  • Willingness to live and work remotely.
