Senior Financial Analyst Job Description

This role involves delivering financial and cost accounting services, financial analysis, reporting, and financial planning functions to support business decision-making. Key responsibilities include providing financial and cost accounting services, including product costing, inventory control, and valuation analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Accounting Services: Ensure timely completion of reconciliations, calculations, journal entries, and other summaries of performance.
  • Financial Analysis: Assess, develop, and present timely and accurate financial information on manufacturing productivity, product cost, and financial performance. Evaluate actual results vs. budget and forecast, identify trends, and assess future implications.
  • Business Decision Support: Collaborate with the finance team to develop analysis, reporting, and financial modeling to inform business decisions. Analyze opportunities to maximize value creation (profit, working capital, return on assets, and productivity).
  • Budgeting and Planning: Coordinate aspects of the annual budget process, periodic forecasts, and financial estimates. Develop cost standards, budgetary metrics, and other processes to measure and evaluate mill performance.
  • Process Improvement: Participate in or lead initiatives to optimize business processes and systems, focusing on value creation (profit, working capital, return on assets, and productivity).
  • Control Framework: Ensure compliance with corporate policies and act as a financial resource to operational functions to ensure consistent application, documentation, and implementation of control objectives.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Critical thinking and analytical capabilities, including extensive managerial and cost accounting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within matrixed teams, build relationships, and influence across functions and levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical skills to create concise information from large datasets.
  • Progressive experience in controllership functions, supervisory experience, and demonstrated capability to mentor and motivate staff.
  • Strong understanding of integrated information systems and database structures to drive efficiencies and improvements in financial information availability.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite and other database management tools, with experience building analytical Excel models.

Minimum Education and Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or relevant advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in managerial/cost accounting, financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, detail-oriented.
