About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel - Consumer Law Specialist to join our team on a 12-month fixed term contract.
This role is pivotal in supporting MECCA's growth, focusing on consumer law, customer complaints, competitions, events, loyalty programs, intellectual property, and marketing clearances. You will also provide broader legal support across the business.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Consumer Law Expertise: Proactively monitor and advise on MECCA's consumer law obligations, ensuring compliance with its consumer protection laws.
- Customer Support: Provide support for customer queries and complaints, implementing process improvements to enhance the customer experience.
- Competitions and Events: Offer assistance with competitions, giveaways, and events, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Loyalty Programs: Support MECCA's loyalty program, maintaining up-to-date terms and conditions, transparent and accurate materials.
- Intellectual Property: Assist with trademark matters, including infringements, applications, licenses, and oppositions.
- Marketing Clearance: Identify potential issues in marketing materials and assist with clearance reviews.
- Commercial Agreements: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and Terms & Conditions, including services agreements, talent agreements, contractor agreements, and NDAs.
- Ad-Hoc Support: Provide general legal advice and support to the business as needed.
Your Qualifications and Skills
- Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification to practice law in Australia.
- Experience: 2-3 years post-admission experience in a similar role.
- Key Skills: Strong understanding of key consumer law issues and related areas of law; ability to draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements; proactive problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Other Requirements: Adaptable, capable of working autonomously, strong organisational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
