The State Government Of Victoria, Australia is seeking a highly skilled in-house counsel to join the Governance, Legal and Risk Services Department. As a key member of the team, you will provide strategic, practical, and outcome-focused legal advice and analysis across all areas of the law to the broader organisation.

About the Role

This critical role offers a unique opportunity for a legal professional to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, complex emergency service organisation where the work you do has a direct impact on helping the broader CFA and the Victorian community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and services across a broad range of legal disciplines, including interpretation and application of legislation.
  • Manage your own files, including litigation claims, and negotiate commercial and inter-governmental matters.
  • Work with external lawyers, provide advice on employment and industrial matters, and advise on volunteer discipline.
  • Collaborate with CFA employees, engage with volunteer members, and liaise with external lawyers.
About You

We are looking for an Australian lawyer with an unrestricted Victorian practising certificate, who has demonstrated experience in applying legal principles to a wide range of issues across multiple legal disciplines.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, customer-centricity, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, you will be able to work collaboratively, building productive relationships with stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.
