Lead Intensive Care Practitioner

The primary objective of this position is to deliver high-quality medical care to patients under supervision within a complex clinical setting.
Main Responsibilities:- To coordinate patient admissions, management and discharge planning in the Intensive Care unit.
- To ensure accurate documentation of patient information in their medical records.
- To assess and manage patients in the Intensive Care unit, communicating effectively with them and their families about their condition and treatment.
- To collaborate and coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, arranging consultations with specialists as needed, and facilitating discharge and liaison with local healthcare providers.
- To make informed decisions regarding patient care in consultation with immediate supervisors.
Key tasks include:
- Providing autonomous patient management with some supervision from Specialists in ICU.
- Maintaining accurate patient care records to meet medico-legal standards as per hospital policy.
- Working an average of 80 hours per fortnight, including evening, weekend and night shifts.
- Pursuing ongoing professional development through regular continuing Medical Education programs for medical and nursing staff.
- Offering support and guidance to junior Resident medical Officers working within the Intensive Care unit.
- Contributing to the education and training of University students attached to the hospital.
- Supporting quality improvement initiatives and clinical practice development within Bathurst Intensive Care unit.
- Developing and maintaining individualized care plans for patients.
- Completing discharge documentation and communicating effectively with community healthcare professionals.
- Liaising appropriately with inpatient teams.
- Reviewing and documenting investigation results for all patients, including those already discharged from the Department.
- Participating in Critical Care projects or committees as required.
- Preparing medico-legal documentation as requested.
- Providing on-call support for wards during evenings and nights to address urgent medical needs and provide assistance such as IV line repositioning and assessment of deteriorating patients.
