Job Description

The primary function of this position is to deliver high-quality medical care to patients under supervision in a complex clinical setting.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate the admission, management, and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to the Intensive Care unit.
  • Evaluate and document the patient's admission and plans in their medical record.
  • Assess and manage patients' day-to-day needs, communicate with them and their families about their condition and treatment, and coordinate care with other staff members as required.
  • Provide support and liaise with local medical officers and other community-based care modalities as needed.
  • Make decisions concerning patients in consultation with their immediate supervisor.
  • Work as a Senior Resident Medical Officer within the Intensive Care unit, managing patients in a semi-autonomous manner with some supervision from Specialists in ICU.
  • Document patient care to meet medico-legal standards set by hospital policy.
  • Work 80 hours per fortnight, including evening, weekend, and night shifts.
  • Attend continuing Medical Education programs for medical and nursing staff.
  • Support and supervise Resident Medical Officers working within the Intensive Care unit.
  • Contribute to the teaching of University students attached to the hospital.
  • Participate in Quality/Clinical Practice improvement activities within the Intensive Care unit.
  • Develop and maintain care plans for patients.
  • Complete discharge documentation and communicate with community Doctors and Health professionals.
  • Liaise with inpatient teams.
  • Review and document investigation results for all patients, including those already discharged.
  • Contribute to projects or committees relevant to Critical Care as requested.
  • Complete requests for medico-legal documentation if required.
  • Provide support for the wards during evenings and nights when ICU patients are stable and time permits.

The hospital provides specialist services in various fields, including Renal Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dentistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Paediatrics.

There are on-site Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Oncology, and Day Surgery units, as well as comprehensive 24-hour onsite Pathology and Medical Imaging services.
