A Medical Leadership Opportunity in a Complex Clinical Environment
About the RoleThe successful applicant will be responsible for providing effective medical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment. The role is key in the Intensive Care unit at Bathurst Hospital.
This is an opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Medical Officer to work in a multidisciplinary team, providing leadership and guidance to junior staff while managing patients in a semi-autonomous manner with some supervision from Specialists in ICU.
- Assess and manage patients in the Intensive Care unit, communicating with them and their families about their condition and treatment.
- Co-ordinate the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to the Intensive Care unit.
- Document patient care to the minimum medico-legal standard, as set out by hospital policy.
This role also involves contributing to the teaching of University students attached to the hospital and supporting Quality/Clinical Practice improvement activities within the unit.
Working EnvironmentBathurst Hospital provides specialist services in various areas including Renal Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Dentistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Paediatrics.
The hospital has on-site facilities such as Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Oncology and Day Surgery units as well as comprehensive 24-hour onsite Pathology and Medical Imaging.
Bathurst offers a pleasant country lifestyle with affordable housing, excellent public and private school education, and a university. It is just two and a half hours drive from Sydney.
RequirementsTo succeed in this role, applicants must have:
- Advanced knowledge and skills in medical care, particularly in Intensive Care.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Capacity to document patient care accurately and efficiently.
