Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Support Specialist

As a dedicated First Nations Support Practitioner, you will have the opportunity to make a profound impact in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families.
This role offers a unique chance to build strong relationships with communities, carers, and families, creating sustainable support networks that promote healing, resilience, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Provide case management and tailored support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families, focusing on their individual needs and circumstances.
- Establish and maintain effective partnerships with local agencies, carers, and families, ensuring collaborative efforts to deliver culturally inclusive programs.
- Develop and implement initiatives that address the complex challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, promoting empowerment and self-determination.
- A degree qualification in social work, psychology, social science, or a related field, or equivalent level of expertise attained through previous appointments, service, and/or study.
- Applied knowledge and understanding of child protection and out-of-home care frameworks, with a focus on cultural safety and responsiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to complete assessments for care and a deep understanding of the contemporary challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including child protection, community services, and supporting families in need.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work sensitively with diverse communities, building trust and rapport.
- A current driver's licence – P2 minimum.
- A current National Police Certificate, Working with Children (Blue Card), Child Safety and Personal History Screening Check (LCS) – or the ability to acquire.
