Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Indigenous Student Support Specialist to join our team at the Kangan Institute. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the wellbeing of Indigenous students, providing counselling services, and facilitating psychosocial education programs.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of Indigenous students and contribute to the success of the Kangan Institute. As an Indigenous Student Support Specialist, you will work closely with students, staff, and external stakeholders to deliver a range of support services, including counselling, welfare, and advisory services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality counselling services to Indigenous students, including assessment, management, and referral as required;
  • Facilitate psychosocial education programs to promote mental health awareness, wellbeing, and support options;
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to provide comprehensive support services to Indigenous students;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local Indigenous communities and stakeholders to enhance student support services.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Tertiary qualification in counselling, social work, psychology, or community services, or a related field;
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and communities, preferably in a tertiary education setting;
  • Eligibility for membership in relevant regulatory bodies, such as PACFA, ACA, AASW, APS, or ACWA;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of autonomy and initiative.
