The Patent Agent/Junior IP Counsel is responsible for partnering with Research Scientists and Engineers and working with the Intellectual Property (IP) Legal team to build and manage our patent portfolio. This role also involves advising on freedom to operate and landscape analyses and supporting new development projects.

This position reports to the Senior Intellectual Property Counsel and is part of our IP Team located in Canada or the United States and will be an on-site role.

Serve as a trusted colleague to Research & Development teams on all IP issues, focusing on invention mining, patentability, patent prosecution, and freedom to operate locally and globally. Give solid and practical strategic IP advice.

Align IP strategies with business plans and lead outside counsel in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Provide educational presentations and training on IP matters to employees.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, and/or Physics is required. Registration as a patent agent before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and/or U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is essential. A minimum of 5 years' experience as a Patent Agent/Junior Counsel in a law firm and/or in-house role is necessary.
