The role of the Secretary's Chief of Staff is a high-level position that requires strategic thinking and leadership skills. As a trusted advisor to the Secretary, you will be responsible for shaping the agenda of the department and driving execution of action items and top priorities.

Key duties of the position include:

  • Serving as a strategic advisor to the Secretary, providing high-level briefings, advice, and support on complex issues
  • Managing cross-coordination support, appointments, and reporting to the Minister's Office and departmental executive
  • Leading daily operations of the Office of the Secretary to drive execution of action items and top priorities
  • Coordinating activities of the Secretaries Board and the Secretary of PM&C as head of the APS where required

The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders across government, in other public sector jurisdictions, and key non-government contacts.

In this role, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate with the Chief of Staff Network across the federal government and lead the department's internal Executive Officer network to enhance cross-collaboration and information sharing.
