Job Title: Staff Development Officer

Job Summary:

The Staff Development Officer will play a key role in supporting the execution of the Rural Fire Service Queensland's staff development framework across the region. This includes administration, coordination, and promotion of training and development activities and initiatives for staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the coordination of staff performance and appraisal development plans for the Region, providing support and advice to line managers to execute this activity.
  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify gaps, trends, and opportunities for improvement in staff development aligned with Personal Achievement and Development Plans.
  • Assist with the coordination, delivery, and facilitation of staff development activities, including coordinating onboarding activities and supporting induction and role readiness activities for new staff members.
  • Provide advice and input to ensure staff development curriculum is contemporary and aligned with operational currency.
  • Monitor, audit, and report on learning and development programs, consult and liaise with staff development, curriculum development and governance teams, to ensure staff development is fit-for-purpose and compliant with industry standards.
  • Maintain and manage best practice governance and administration processes in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) environment.
Requirements:
  • Must meet the mandatory requirements and attributes as outlined in the generic RFSQ Rural Officer Two (RFSO2) role description.
  • Possession of current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and/or accredited tertiary qualification in adult education or equivalent.
Desirable Requirements:
  • High level understanding of contemporary training methodologies and willingness to maintain competencies and skills.
  • Knowledge of, or experience working with volunteers and/or within a volunteer organisation.
Working Conditions:

This is a day work position with flexible hours of work to meet functional demands, including working at night on weekends as part of the role. Incumbents may be required to travel and work within their area of responsibility and may also be required to undertake intrastate and/or interstate deployment and travel.

Incumbents appointed to this position will participate in a personal professional development programme developed in conjunction with their supervisor.

Those appointed to a role within the QDMA (Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements) framework will undertake appropriate regularly training, to maintain your role within RFS as a member of any QDMA appointed position.
