Job Description

The role of a Player Development Manager is crucial in supporting the welfare and development of AFLW players. The ideal candidate will work closely with the players to identify, manage, and support their transition into an elite sporting environment.

This position prioritizes the welfare of the players and aims to provide the most effective support program in the AFL.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing life skills and coping mechanisms required for players to thrive in an elite sports landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Player Engagement & Support Network:
    • Provide assistance and relocation support for new players to Sydney.
    • Manage players' entry and exit from the program and develop their ability to live independently in Sydney.
    • Identify players with increasing welfare or wellbeing needs and implement strategies to minimize concerns.
  • Life Skill Development:
    • Develop life skills and coping skills required to transition into an elite AFL landscape.
    • Identify and support players' development needs outside of football.
    • Monitor and deliver programs that support holistic approaches to player wellbeing, health, and performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certificate IV in Education, Health Science, Behavioural, Social Science, or Psychology Field.
  • Completion of AFLPA Executive Certificate in Player Development.
  • A minimum 5 years experience in a related field.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and being part of a team.
