Job Description

Job Title: Director of Operations and Capability

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of Operations and Capability. This role will be responsible for leading and managing the operations of the ACT State Emergency Service (SES) and implementing programs, policies, and administrative systems to enable critical operational activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the operations of the ACT SES, including implementing programs, policies, and administrative systems.
  • Support the Chief Officer of the ACT SES in leading and managing the Service.
  • Represent the ACT SES and the Emergency Services Agency in local and national forums, committees, and working groups.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and volunteers across Services and with other Government agencies.
  • Ensure effective lines of communication and transparency for operation preparedness and response.
  • Manage people, projects, and everyday operations of the ACT SES in a dynamic environment.
  • Support operational responses to emergency incidents, including outside of normal working hours.
Requirements:
  • Background in working or volunteering in an emergency services organisation is highly desirable.
  • Qualifications and/or experience in a field relating to emergency management are desirable.
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration is required prior to commencing this role.
  • Background and Security clearance checks will be conducted, including National Police Records Check.
  • Minimum 'C' Class Driver's Licence is essential.
  • Ability to work after hours and on weekends, including attending meetings and local Unit visits.
  • Participation as Duty Officer may be required if the holder of the position has the needed background knowledge and skills.
