Job Title: Mental Health Specialist

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a health centre setting to support the diverse mental health needs of military members. Referrals come from various sources, including the member, medical team, and Command, offering diversity in presentations and support requests.

The role involves providing initial intake and assessment, with flexibility to accommodate presenting need. There is scope for the use of psychometrics and engagement in treatment that capitalizes on your skills, interests, and scope of practice.

You will be responsible for managing your caseload, including oversight and case management of externally referred cases and the provision of internal treatment to Defence members. This includes managing crisis presentations, risk assessment, and risk management planning within a multi-disciplinary team.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Personal Integrity and Ethics. You must demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Professional Registration. Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is essential.
  • Mental Health Experience. A minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence-based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule.
  • Continuous Professional Development. Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • CPR Certification. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification is required.
