Psychology Role at ACT Health Centre

This is a part-time position for a Psychologist at the ACT Health Centre in Canberra. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a health centre setting, supporting the diverse mental health needs of military members.

Referrals come from various sources: the member, medical team and Command, offering diversity in presentations and support requests.

The Psychologist will provide initial intake and assessment with flexibility to accommodate presenting need, utilizing psychometrics and engagement in treatment that capitalises on their skills, interests and scope of practice.

They will have autonomy to manage their caseload including oversight and case management of externally referred cases and the provision of internal treatment to Defence members.

In addition, the Psychologist will be responsible for managing crisis presentations, risk assessment and risk management planning, supported within a multi-disciplinary team.

To succeed in this role, the candidate requires:

  • High levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence-based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule.
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
  • Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable).
  • Knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy (desirable).

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will work collaboratively with other health professionals to provide high-quality care to patients.

You will contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures, and participate in education and training programs for staff.

Key Selection Criteria include ability to work autonomously, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
