Job Role:

The Mental Health Specialist will be part of a multidisciplinary team working within a healthcare setting to provide support for the diverse mental health needs of military members.

Referrals may come from various sources, offering a range of presentations and support requests. The specialist will conduct initial intake and assessment with flexibility to accommodate presenting needs, utilizing psychometrics and engaging in treatment that capitalizes on their skills, interests, and scope of practice.

They will have autonomy to manage their caseload, including oversight and case management of externally referred cases, and the provision of internal treatment to Defence members.

Additionally, the specialist's management of crisis presentations, risk assessment, and risk management planning is supported within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting, undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence-based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule.
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.

The Mental Health Specialist will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care to patients, utilizing their knowledge and skills to make a positive difference in the lives of Defence personnel.

As part of this role, the specialist will be required to maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict protocols surrounding patient information.

Key Qualifications:

• Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

• Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting.

• Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.
