As a phlebotomist, you will be part of a skilled team that collects blood and non-blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients for testing. This role involves working effectively and efficiently to ensure all collection practices and processes comply with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Participate in an established roster covering a range of shifts within 0600-1700, including weekends and public holidays, as required by patient need.
  • Successfully perform phlebotomy on neonates, paediatric, adult and geriatric patients in a busy public hospital environment.
  • Prioritize inpatient and outpatient workloads to meet Turn Around Times, averaging 7 or more collections per hour on each shift.
  • Use integrated electronic Medical Record systems and Laboratory Information Systems, or have the ability to quickly learn these systems.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly and respectfully with supervisors, colleagues, patients and clients.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A Certificate III in Pathology Collection or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience, especially in paediatric phlebotomy, is highly regarded.
  • The ability to acquire knowledge of medical terminology, pathology terminology, test names and specimen types.
