Job Title: Specimen Collector
The primary purpose of this position is to collect pathology specimens from patients within or attending the hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
- Follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
- Work effectively as a member of a team and communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff, and colleagues.
- Focus on patient care and safety within a hospital setting.
- Demonstrate commitment to quality management and continuous quality improvement processes.
- Enter data accurately and pay attention to detail in all aspects of specimen collection.
- Rapidly learn pre-analytical processes in a large and complex laboratory setting.
Requirements:
- Certificate in Pathology (Specimen Collection) or equivalent qualification is highly regarded.
- Contemporary computer skills for Data Entry, Excel, and Word are essential.
- Shift work at various laboratories may be required, including night shifts and weekends.
- Central Specimen Reception training may be necessary for success in this role.
