Operational Forecasting Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Operational Forecasting Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our forecasting group, you will be responsible for managing operational forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms, and wind farms.

The successful candidate will have experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting or analytical role. They will also possess clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, including experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate technical information to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will work closely with our weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the information they need. Additionally, you will coordinate across teams and markets to align tools, data and forecasting processes between our National Electricity Market (NEM) and Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

Your tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology or a related statistical discipline will serve as a solid foundation for this role. You will be expected to contribute energy and weather information and insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews and market reports to support secure and reliable power system operations.

To excel in this position, you will need to have working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modelling techniques, including but not limited to PowerBI, Databricks, SQL and Excel. Furthermore, you will be able to work collaboratively in a team environment and work across multiple projects.

Key Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology or a related statistical discipline.
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operations, forecasting or analytical role.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modelling techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
