The Operational Forecasting team is renowned globally for its leadership in short-term forecasting practices.

About the Role

As an Operational Forecasting expert, you will support the development and continuous improvement of forecast models for electricity demand and variable renewable energy generation central to our market systems.

  • Develop operational forecasting models for electricity demand, rooftop PV, grid-scale solar farms, and wind farms by updating inputs, parameters, and variables to reflect system changes and improve performance.
  • Work closely with weather providers and control rooms to translate weather risks into system impacts and ensure operators have the necessary information.
  • Coordinate across teams and markets to align tools, data, and forecasting processes between our markets.
  • Contribute energy and weather insights into operational advisories, power system incident reviews, and market reports to support secure and reliable power system operations.
  • Support upgrades of forecasting applications and digital enhancements to improve the performance and reliability of forecasting systems and processes.
Requirements

Key qualifications include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or a related statistical discipline.
  • Experience in the energy sector or similar industry, preferably in an operational, forecasting, or analytical role.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, including experience preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate technical information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and statistical modelling techniques.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects.
