Job Summary

Mental Health Therapy Aide

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide direct care services, treatment, rehabilitation, and support to individuals diagnosed with mental illness in institutional or community-based settings.
  2. Encourage individuals to develop daily living skills and assist in providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.
  3. Work with other staff to develop, carry out, and record care plans, and administer medication as per special instructions.
  4. Participate in games and recreational programs to promote mental well-being and socialization.
  5. Respond to emergency situations and prioritize the health and safety of patients and staff.
  6. Communicate effectively with individuals and staff to ensure seamless care delivery and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
  7. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans that address the unique needs and goals of each individual.
  8. Maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress to ensure continuity of care and inform future interventions.
  9. Adhere to established protocols and guidelines for medication administration, infection control, and other critical aspects of mental health care to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
  10. Stay up-to-date with relevant training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in mental health care and support.
  11. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development of evidence-based practices that enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
  12. Engage in reflective practice to identify personal strengths and areas for growth and development, and seek feedback from colleagues and supervisors to inform professional development and improve practice.
  13. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to relevant policies and procedures to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or management to support the effective delivery of mental health services and the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
Requirements
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent, with a focus on mental health, social work, or a related field.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to interact with individuals and staff in a clear and respectful manner.
  3. Basic knowledge of mental health principles, practices, and laws, with a focus on the rights and dignity of individuals with mental illness.
  4. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a focus on prioritizing tasks, managing stress, and maintaining a professional demeanor under pressure.
  5. Basic computer skills, with a focus on using electronic medical records and other software applications to support care delivery and data management.
  6. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of patient interactions, treatment plans, and progress to ensure continuity of care and inform future interventions.
  7. Physical stamina to perform tasks that require standing, walking, and lifting, with a focus on maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  8. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the delivery of services and meet the needs of individuals and families.
  9. Basic knowledge of cultural competence, with a focus on understanding and respecting the diversity of individuals and families served.
  10. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a focus on building strong relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  11. Basic knowledge of risk management, with a focus on identifying and mitigating potential risks and hazards to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
