Lead Ecological Specialist
As a lead ecological scientist, you will be responsible for providing key insights to our project development and growth. This role is crucial in driving the success of our team by translating complex ecological data into actionable information.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecology or environmental science, with extensive experience in Australian rangelands or comparable dryland systems. You will also possess excellent field experience, including designing repeatable ecological surveys at landscape scale, as well as the ability to read and critique LiDAR/RS outputs.
- Develop project designs that incorporate vegetation condition, regeneration potential, and disturbance history, ensuring they meet ACCU compliance standards.
- Create land condition frameworks that define metrics, sampling designs, and thresholds to track change over time and distinguish between suppressed and recoverable states.
- Establish ecological baselines and monitoring protocols that integrate plot, photo, and historical land use records, ensuring audit readiness.
- Fuse field and remote sensing data to quantify biomass, structure, and recruitment, flagging data quality issues.
- Provide clear go/no-go ecological calls for project eligibility areas, management interventions, and expected carbon trajectories.
- Collaborate with the Chief Scientist to test assumptions, stress-test models, publish internal technical notes, and contribute to method submissions.
- Train staff and contractors in vegetation ID, plot methods, photo standards, data logging, and error tracking, implementing QA/QC checks that withstand CER audit.
- Represent the company's science with regulators, research partners, pastoral clients, and corporate buyers, communicating evidence clearly.
- Capture lessons from field campaigns, updating SOPs, data schemas, and decision rules to tighten uncertainty and improve credit yield confidence.
Ideally, you will have a PhD in a relevant field such as ecology, environmental science, plant science, rangeland systems, or geospatial science. You will bring demonstrated ability to design repeatable ecological surveys at landscape scale, comfort reading and critiquing LiDAR/RS outputs, strong data handling and statistical interpretation, and ability to brief executives in plain English.
