Job Description


This Full-Time position will see you working as a Legal Practitioner within our Family and Civil Law team. You will be responsible for providing expert casework assistance and information directly to clients, as well as external stakeholders. Your role will involve frequent opportunity to work with the Principal Legal Officer and Directors of Law (Family and Civil) to develop culturally competent legal services.


The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law, Child Protection, and Domestic Violence matters. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathetically convey sound information or advice.


Key Responsibilities



  • Providing expert casework assistance and information to clients and external stakeholders;
  • Working closely with the Principal Legal Officer and Directors of Law (Family and Civil);
  • Developing culturally competent legal services;
  • Communicating effectively with clients and colleagues;
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting statistical data.

Selection Criteria


To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:



  • A strong alignment to the values and vision of Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Legal Service;
  • A current Practising Certificate and admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland;
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills;
  • An in-depth understanding of key legislation, practices, and procedures in the fields of Family Law, Child Protection, and Domestic Violence matters;
  • A willingness to work collaboratively with the team and contribute to the development of culturally competent legal services.
