Job Title: Senior Policy Advisor

Job Description

The role of the Senior Policy Advisor is to develop policy positions, conduct research and analysis, and represent our organisation at key forums. The ideal candidate will have a degree with relevant experience or extensive experience in policy development and government relations. A strong understanding of policy, operations, and emerging trends in the tertiary education sector is essential. Experience in producing high-quality briefings, policy positions, and strategic insights is also required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse government policy to determine its impact on our organisation's operations and objectives
  • Develop advocacy plans for specific government relations campaigns
  • Build and manage relationships with Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, public officials, peak bodies, and other policy influencers
  • Prepare submissions for government policy reviews, proposed legislation, and consultative processes
Requirements

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A degree with substantial relevant experience or extensive experience in policy development and government relations
  • A sound understanding of policy, operations, and emerging trends in the tertiary education sector
  • Experience in producing high-quality briefings, policy positions, and strategic insights
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop strong relationships and partnerships
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills
