Legal Specialist Job Description

This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of Indigenous Australians by providing expert legal services and support.

As a Legal Specialist, you will be part of a dynamic team delivering innovative and professional criminal, civil, and family law services. You will work closely with our Principal Legal Officer and Directors of Law to develop culturally competent legal services that meet the unique needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert casework assistance and information directly to clients and external stakeholders about client matters
  • Develop legal strategies and solutions that align with our values and priorities

**Selection Criteria:**

  • Essential Criteria (6):
  • Values: Align to our organisation's values and demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to the challenges our clients face
  • Qualifications: Admission as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland or eligibility for immediate acquisition of a current Practising Certificate
  • Core Legal Duties: Experience in high-level client services in Family and Civil Law proceedings, including Child Protection and Domestic Violence Applications
  • Confidence in Legislation: In-depth working knowledge of key legislation in Family Law and Civil Law, including the Succession Act
  • Access, Teamwork, and Communication: Preparedness to work after hours and willingness to assist in the development of Court Support/Field Officers' training
  • Desirable Criteria (4):
  • Mobility, Access, and Safety: Current Queensland Driver Licence and ability to drive in all reasonable conditions may be required
  • Criminal Law: Ability to assist the Regional Manager on duty lawyer matters during periods of demand
