Airport Security Officer

The selected candidate will undertake a range of law enforcement and security responsibilities aimed at safeguarding property, preventing and detecting crime, ensuring public safety, managing traffic, and enforcing the Airport Security Program along with Airport Rules and Regulations.
Key Responsibilities:- Conducts both vehicle and foot patrols across Airport premises, including terminal buildings, aircraft operation areas, roadways, parking facilities, and various structures within the airport.
- Responds promptly to service requests.
- Manages traffic flow (both pedestrian and vehicular) to ensure public safety and welfare.
- Implements security protocols in designated areas as determined by the Airport Authority to protect individuals and property involved in air travel.
- Detects and prevents criminal activities and breaches of the Airport Security Program throughout the Airport using surveillance and patrol techniques.
- Fosters understanding and collaboration by explaining relevant laws and regulations, thereby building a positive rapport between the Airport Authority, employees, and the public.
- Enforces traffic regulations, vehicle codes, City Codes (Ordinances), and Airport Security Rules, while promoting safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
- Prepares daily reports and documentation related to law enforcement, Airport Security, and regulatory compliance as required.
- Provides law enforcement and aviation security services, including making arrests and testifying in court.
- Investigates incidents and crime scenes as assigned.
- Secures evidence, collects witness statements, and assists the department or public as necessary.
- Utilizes computer systems for access to data concerning Airport security identification badges, lock and key control, T-hangar access, and employee parking.
- Maintains proficiency with firearms and utilizes them in accordance with established use of force standards.
- High School Diploma or GED (Proof of education must be submitted with the application).
- Current certification as a Police Officer in the State of Florida is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. Candidates with an out-of-state license must obtain a Florida license within 10 days of employment.
- Successful completion of the required TSA security background investigation is mandatory.
- Attendance in a TSA Security Standards Class and passing a test with a minimum score of 70 is required.
- Must pass assessments including situational judgment, human relations, written report writing, and video-based tests.
- Successful completion of the PAT physical abilities test is necessary.
- Understanding of emergency medical and first aid practices.
- Familiarity with patrol resource allocation theories, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge of FM FAR 1542; Melbourne International Airport Security Program; Melbourne International Airport Rules and Regulations; Melbourne City Code; and relevant federal, state, and local laws.
- Proficiency in using firearms and other law enforcement equipment.
- Ability to assess situations and make rational decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to follow and understand directions.
- Capability to interpret program objectives and policies effectively.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
- Skill in applying principles to resolve practical issues, identifying problems, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
- Ability to interact tactfully and effectively with the public in various stressful situations and respond appropriately in emergencies.
- Willingness to work various shifts and hours as required.
- Competence in using a computer keyboard accurately and familiar with associated software.
- Ability to conduct oral and written presentations.
- Capability to operate motor vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including cool (68 degrees or lower) or warm (75 degrees or higher) temperatures, for extended periods.
- Physical ability to restrain or subdue individuals when necessary.
- Capacity to learn both simple and complex tasks.
- Aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires heavy physical exertion, including lifting over 100 pounds occasionally, over 50 pounds frequently, and over 20 pounds constantly. The following physical abilities are essential: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
