Inspection Specialist

The Inspection Operations organization is an inclusive and interdisciplinary team responsible for providing high-quality inspections of flight components and production assemblies. As an Inspection Specialist, you will have the opportunity to engage with various inspection types across Starship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform internal and external inspections to ensure weldments/structures meet acceptance criteria
  • Interpret codes and specifications according to drawing requirements
  • Compile and submit data for acceptance or rejection of inspections
  • Recommend and approve repairs as well as perform visual inspections
  • Monitor welding processes to ensure compliance with qualified procedures
  • Verify welder qualifications and base metal specifications
  • Appraise welding joint designs and joint preparations
  • Verify tack weld quality and preheat/interpass temperatures
  • Assure proper control and handling of welding consumables
  • Verify product conformity to drawings and specifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Current American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Additional nondestructive Evaluation Level II or III certifications in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance
  • 2+ years of experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards including ABS, AWS, and ASME
