Family Services Practitioner Opportunity

The role of a Family Services Practitioner is crucial in supporting families through the challenges of pregnancy, birth, and infancy. This position requires a high level of cultural competency, empathy, and understanding of the impact of colonization and intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal families.

In this role, you will work closely with an Aboriginal Early Years practitioner and specialist practice leads to provide a wraparound response to address the identified needs of the family. You will empower families to share their story their way through culturally appropriate and trauma-informed engagement, information gathering, planning processes, and ensuring active involvement of families in decision making.

About the Role
  • This is a permanent full-time opportunity for two positions located in Werribee and Melton.
  • You will be required to have a diploma qualification in Community Services, Social Work, Nursing or substantial experience in these fields.
  • A well-developed understanding of the impact of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and other issues that impact on Aboriginal families, children, and young people is essential.
  • Ability to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner with Aboriginal families and communities to foster and maintain cultural connections is critical.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required including the ability to work with limited direction and within a small team.
  • In-depth understanding of pregnancy, birth, and infancy and ability to support families through these stages is also necessary.
