Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team as a Geographic Information Systems Specialist.

The successful candidate will be part of the First Peoples-State Relations Group at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, working closely with other disciplines and roles as part of an agile, cross-functional team to deliver results.

The role is responsible for maintaining spatial datasets which support the work of Heritage Services and the broader First Peoples - State Relations Group work profile.

  • Providing mapping support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Offering technical and specialist advice on GIS and spatial information.
  • Contributing to strategic policy development in relation to GIS and spatial information.

This is a unique opportunity to work in new and innovative ways that recognise First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of Aboriginal affairs in Victoria.

The First Peoples - State Relations Group recognises the invaluable contribution of existing Aboriginal staff and is committed to promoting Aboriginal leadership as reflected in the Group's executive team.

Key Responsibilities

The Geographic Information Systems Specialist will:

  • Work closely with other disciplines and roles as part of an agile, cross-functional team to deliver results.
  • Develop analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with sound judgment and capacity to make decisions and recommendations where diverse interests need to be considered.
  • Provide advice on processes and policies with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic policy development in relation to GIS and spatial information.

The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary degree in Geographic Information Systems or a degree in a relevant discipline involving advanced studies in Geographic Information Systems.
