Job Title: Livestock Breeding Specialist
This is a specialized position requiring an experienced professional in livestock breeding and animal care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Artificial Insemination:
- Artificially inseminate livestock for breeding purposes by selecting the most suitable individuals and optimizing conditions for success.
- Utilize understanding of animal anatomy to monitor and maintain optimum insemination conditions.
Animal Care and Hygiene:
- Maintain accurate records of all insemination history, ensuring thorough documentation and analysis of data.
- Ensure all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to maintain sanitary breeding practices.
Health and Safety:
- Administer vaccinations when necessary to prevent disease transmission among animals.
- Handle animals humanely, prioritizing their welfare and minimizing stress.
- Store semen effectively to facilitate efficient insemination procedures.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols when handling hazardous materials such as liquid nitrogen.
Observation and Reporting:
- Conduct regular physical inspections of animals to detect harmful pathogens, insects, parasites, or fungal infections, and implement effective treatment and control methods.
- Submit regular reports to the operations manager detailing farm breeding activities, providing valuable insights and contributing to informed decision-making.
Teamwork and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to achieve set team objectives, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
- Participate actively in site and section head meetings, staying informed about important developments and sharing expertise where applicable.
Other Responsibilities:
- Protect confidential company information and respect individual privacy requirements as per relevant legislation.
- Comply with all company biosecurity requirements, upholding rigorous standards of animal health and welfare.
- Ensure adherence to relevant legislation, statutes, and government guidelines governing agricultural practices.
- Promote a positive company image through professional conduct, empathy, and cooperation with others.
- Undertake other tasks or duties nominated by the assistant or operations manager from time to time.
