
Cultural Advocate for Young People

This is a critical role in assisting staff, children, and families to improve the stability and cultural connection of the young people in our care.
Key Responsibilities:- Directly support staff, children, and families to enhance the stability and cultural connection of the young people.
- Collaborate with families, children, staff, and carers to develop a tailored cultural plan that meets the needs of each individual.
- Facilitate identifying and locating extended family connections and reengagement with extended families and kin.
- Engage with Aboriginal communities and provide mentoring support for children and young people to connect to family, culture, and community.
- Support staff, families, and children to identify their communities of origin, connection to country, and mob.
- Assess the needs of families and children for specialized flexible support with a focus on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- Enhance the practical application of care for children in the context of their cultural background.
- Maintain open communication with staff, carers, and families about events, programs, and activities available within their local Aboriginal communities.
- Current Working with Children Check (paid employment)
- Current First Aid Certificate (Provide First Aid; HLTAID011)
- National Police Check
- A current driver's license
- Vehicle capable of transporting 4 or more people
- Comprehensive Car Insurance
- Ability to follow protocol and individualized programs designed for the young person
- Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks
- Two work-related references
- Recognition by local Indigenous groups
- Working knowledge of youth work
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Office Applications
- Knowledge of Needs-Based Restorative Framework concepts and strategies
