Bus Service Performance Monitoring Role

This role involves playing a critical part in overseeing bus service performance in real-time environments, minimizing service delays using online support systems, handling emergencies, and restoring services after disruptions.

As an OCC Controller, you will be part of a highly qualified and experienced team that excels at achieving positive outcomes.

  • Monitor On-Time-Running (OTR) of the bus fleet using PTIPS and up-to-date driver information, maintaining KPIs as per contractual requirements with TFNSW.
  • Utilize TRBOnet radio system to contact the bus fleet and respond to call-back and open-channel requests.
  • Identify and clarify information obtained by drivers over the radio and resolve issues.
  • Liaise with mechanical staff regarding breakdowns and faults within the fleet on the road, organizing mechanics to attend to breakdowns or change buses.
  • Escalate major accidents/incidents to relevant parties and arrange CDC representation to attend the scene, liaising with representatives once on site.
  • Facilitate transfers of passengers from services by requesting other services to assist, such as replacement buses or repair services.
  • Monitor Regional and Special event services, liaise with marshals on site and drivers on passenger loadings, dispatching services in conjunction with passenger bump-in and bump-out requirements.
  • Make general broadcasts to drivers regarding safety issues, hazards, and instructions.
  • Communicate with mechanical staff, providing details of breakdowns and faults within the fleet on the road, and direct them to the location when required.
  • Liaise with depots and contact drivers with their requests and provide instructions.
  • Liaise with external parties regarding issues affecting the fleet.
  • Answer public transport timetable information requests from drivers using PTIPS, timetables, and Transport NSW's trip planning website.
  • Review documentation sent by other parties on potential service impacts.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate records of bus service performance.
  • Effective communication and liaison with various stakeholders including drivers, mechanical staff, and external parties.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and think logically in complex situations.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and ability to learn new technologies.

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Comfortable dealing with people from diverse cultures and respecting cultural differences.
  • Will to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have or willing to obtain a Working With Children Check for Paid Employment purposes.
