Job Description

Role Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Jerrabomberra High School. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in supporting students with a range of disabilities, including emotional disturbance, and developing innovative programs to ensure suitable learning supports are in place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to cater for the social, emotional, sensory, and communication needs of students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with the special education team to design and deliver flexible and innovative teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of students with disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive education for students with disabilities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide policies and procedures related to special education.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.

Requirements:

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with Autism, Mild and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities, Behavioural difficulties, and Emotional Disturbance in a secondary educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate flexible and innovative teaching and learning opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills working effectively with staff, parents, and key stakeholders.
