Child Protection Counsellor Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team as a Child Protection Counsellor. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that involves providing therapy, care coordination, and advocacy to families experiencing child protection concerns.

In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated team of professionals to enhance child safety, strengthen parenting capacity, and support placement stability, restoration, and family preservation.

About the Role

The Child Protection Counselling Service is part of the Vulnerable Abuse and Neglect stream within the Children, Young People and Families network. You will be based at the Harker Building at Wallsend Health Campus, conveniently located at the end of the Hunter Expressway.

You will receive a mix of formal orientation and hands-on learning, with ongoing professional development through our strong connections with Child Protection Counsellors across the District. Access to ECAV training, regular supervision (individual and group), and peer support ensures you will continue to grow and refine your skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide therapy, care coordination, and advocacy to families experiencing child protection concerns.
  • Work closely with a team of professionals to enhance child safety, strengthen parenting capacity, and support placement stability, restoration, and family preservation.
  • Develop and implement individualised plans to support families in achieving their goals.
  • Collaborate with other agencies and services to ensure comprehensive support for families.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Level 3 tertiary qualifications and relevant experience in Social Work, Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and willingness and ability to travel for work purposes.
