Senior Legal Counsel Role

This is a high-impact position for an experienced lawyer to provide legal guidance across the full spectrum of banking and corporate operations.

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will work within a respected and collaborative legal team driving the organisation's compliance, governance, and risk posture while enabling strategic and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice across banking, corporate, and financial services matters.
  • Lead contract negotiation and management including SLAs, supplier arrangements, finance agreements, and corporate initiatives.
  • Navigate a complex regulatory landscape and ensure compliance with relevant regimes.
  • Support board and governance functions including advice on director duties, conflicts of interest, and statutory reporting.
  • Collaborate with business units on risk management and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Foster strong stakeholder engagement across senior leadership, regulators, and external counsel.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Admitted solicitor in NSW with at least 7–10 years' post-qualification experience in financial services, banking, or corporate law.
  • Expertise in consumer and retail banking law with an ability to manage a broad portfolio of legal issues including employment, IP/IT procurement, and governance.
  • Strong knowledge of financial services laws and regulations including ASIC and APRA frameworks.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at executive and board level.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic, and commercially minded approach to legal problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with customer-owned institutions will be well regarded.
