Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and support efficient workflows in the lighting department to ensure high-quality work is delivered efficiently.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to define workflows and approaches that maximise efficiency of show teams.
  • Design and establish standards for the lighting pipeline to optimise team performance.
  • Engage in creative processes with a positive attitude and demonstrate excellent aesthetic eye and problem-solving skills.

The Head of Lighting will work closely with other department heads at DNEG to communicate on behalf of the lighting team and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency. This will involve managing workflows and handing off assets between departments.

This is a critical role in our international organisation, working with one pipeline and vision to provide the best visual effects. You'll contribute to planning work division between locations to maximise resources and productivity.

The line management of the lighting team, including supervisors, is a core part of this role. You'll be accountable for conducting probationary reviews, annual appraisals, performance management, and succession planning. You'll also develop your team and fulfill their potential by providing mentorship and guidance.

Mandatory Skills
  • Deep understanding of lighting within visual effects for high-end film and television.
  • At least 10 years experience in the VFX industry.
  • Significant supervision and/or management experience in the VFX industry.
  • Previous experience in line management.
  • Extensive knowledge of rendering software such as Clarisse, Arnold, and/or Katana.
Desirable Skills
  • Previous knowledge of the DNEG pipeline.
  • Experience in Python and general programming.
  • Maya and/or equivalent 3D software knowledge.
