Job Opportunity: Deputy Registrar LO1-3

This role is an integral part of the judiciary, supporting the Court and its clients through the provision of high-level, specialized quasi-judicial/legal services.

The Supreme Court of New South Wales is the highest court in New South Wales, hearing civil, criminal, and appellate matters. It plays a crucial role in the administration of justice in New South Wales.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assessing and determining probate applications are key responsibilities of this position.
  • Determining chamber applications, such as enforcing judgments, granting leave to issue subpoenas, making orders for substituted service, and registering foreign judgments.
  • Sitting in court to conduct examinations under relevant Acts, including the Corporations Act 2001 and the Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1900.
  • Conducting mediations under the court-annexed mediation scheme, specifically for Legal Officer III.

The Deputy Registrar also sits as the Duty Registrar, providing procedural information to litigants, the legal profession, and registry staff.

Essential Requirements and Skills
  • Candidates must have an interest in Probate and Civil procedure.
  • A strong understanding of the Supreme Court Act 1970, Civil Procedure Act 2005, related rules, practice, and procedure, preferably with litigation experience and strong academics.
  • A willingness to attend the registry in-person each weekday due to the nature of the work performed.
  • Strong skills in time management and prioritizing work.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • A person who acts with high levels of integrity and has a desire to be involved in the administration of justice.

Admission as a legal practitioner in NSW (or another State or Territory within Australia) is essential.
