Principal Tailings Engineer

The primary objective of this role is to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for the safe, compliant, and effective operation and construction of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). This involves ensuring that engineering practices align with company standards, industry best practice, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and technical oversight across tailings engineering, construction, and surveillance activities.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of construction scopes, engineering designs, and execution plans.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure design intent is achieved.
  • Monitor performance of TSFs through regular inspections, instrumentation reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Lead the implementation of QA/QC procedures and ensure construction is executed to design specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and geotechnical standards and procedures.
  • Support the development and mentoring of junior engineers and site technical personnel.

About You:

  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
  • Have experience in mining planning software.
  • Have a wide range of experience in technical and engineering aspects of mine design and operation.
  • Possess planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Display strong coaching and mentoring skills.
