Product Development Specialist

The primary role of this position is to ensure that the products sold meet the expectations and requirements of our customers. This involves working closely with sales teams to identify opportunities in the mechanical field, evaluating our product range to optimize and fill gaps, and advising on suitable products from our range based on customer data sets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validating technical inquiries received from both internal and external customers to provide accurate information and support
  • Collaborating with sales teams to explore potential sales opportunities in the mechanical sector
  • Evaluating our product range and making recommendations to optimize its performance and reduce gaps
  • Identifying suitable products for key customers using their data sets and providing advice on our product range
  • Developing strong relationships with suppliers and overseeing the product range to ensure it meets customer needs
  • Maintaining cost increases with suppliers to ensure the product range remains competitive

Requirements

  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in mechanical power transmission, belts, bearings, and gearing
  • Ability to influence supplier negotiations and manage difficult situations effectively
  • Knowledge of product development, sourcing, or category management in a B2B business or major OEM/industrial supplier
  • Experience in managing supplier portfolios and identifying opportunities to improve categories or commercial positions
  • Australian industry experience is essential, and sales experience is highly regarded
