The Project Finance Specialist role is a key position within the Naval Ship Building and Sustainment Group. As a specialist, you will be responsible for demonstrating sound financial acumen and exercising initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures.

You will assist the finance manager with the development and management of budget exercises, manage finance support activities including simple procurement and payment of invoices, and resolve issues to contribute best practice and continuous improvement of processes related to finance.

About the Role

The Hunter Class Frigate project is one of the most advanced warships in the world, utilising cutting-edge technology and capabilities. The project provides the foundation for Continuous Naval Shipbuilding in Australia, working with experts from the UK, USA, Canada and Europe to provide six frigates optimised for anti-submarine warfare to the Royal Australian Navy.

You will have access to generous working conditions as an Australian Public Servant in Defence, including flexible working arrangements available. Information on Defence employees' working conditions can be sourced from the Defence Enterprise Agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and process invoices and purchase orders relating to contractor requirements;
  • Sound finance acumen, problem-solving and organisation skills with attention to detail;
  • Sound excel skills;
  • Assist with the development of budget estimates for the project with stakeholders;
  • Critical thinking skills, with the ability to be assertive in decision-making;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • An interest in exploring innovative approaches to support and improve business processes;
  • A positive attitude towards successful relationships with team members and stakeholders
