Job Title: Principal Design Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Design Engineer to lead our design team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and growing a small design team, including mentoring junior engineers and being involved in the hiring process.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading and growing a small design team, including mentoring some junior engineers.
  • Breaking down larger design scopes into smaller parts to assess hours for each stage and provide a competitive offer for clients (tendering).
  • Managing scopes within agreed budgets with best utilising resources available, including overseas.
  • Undertaking design duties across all facets of the company's engineering services under the general area of Specialised Temporary Works Design, from concept through to construction while considering the impact on permanent works.
  • Specialist skills in FEM modelling desired.
  • Acquiring/reinforcing/expanding knowledge in your area of expertise under the guidance and mentoring of senior professionals.
  • Working within the Design Team to conceptualise structural solutions, embracing agreed concepts, and further developing structural designs & documentation to required levels of completion.
  • Efficiently utilising specialist structural design software including current and future versions.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Principal Design Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in specialist structural design software including SpaceGass, Midas Civil, Strand7, Autodesk suite incl Robot, Tekla Structures/Tedds.
