Legal Counsel Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our team.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified lawyer with 6-8 years of relevant post-admission experience to provide expert legal input across the tendering process, delivering accurate, high-quality advice that supports business objectives.

The successful candidate will maintain a high standard of technical expertise, consistently meeting deadlines and building strong, collaborative stakeholder relationships.

Key responsibilities include communicating complex legal and contractual matters clearly and accessibly, ensuring tender documentation is accurate and aligned with company benchmarks and standards.

The role involves delivering precise legal advice with clear recommendations, highlighting areas of uncertainty and ensuring risks are fully understood.

You will balance excellence with pragmatism by identifying and managing deviations from company benchmarks during tendering and contract negotiations.

Additionally, you will engage and oversee external counsel and manage legal spend effectively.

Requirements
  • A current practising certificate in an Australian jurisdiction
  • Proven in-house construction experience is essential
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating on behalf of a head contractor
  • A strong background in construction law, contracts, and commercial disputes
  • The ability to provide clear, pragmatic and solution-focused advice in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • A collaborative, commercial mindset with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels
