About this PositionThe Water Infrastructure Specialist plays a critical role in supporting our Urban Drains, Water & Wastewater maintenance team by supervising minor works and ensuring the efficient completion of operations and maintenance tasks.
We seek an individual who possesses strong problem-solving skills, can apply standards, and evaluate alternatives to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
This is a permanent position working alongside a professional team in a full-time 38 hour per week role based at our Wyrallah Road Depot in East Lismore.

- Carry out operational and maintenance tasks on Council's water and wastewater infrastructure as directed, adhering to strict safety protocols and quality standards.
- Correctly interpret and construct technical specifications, plans, and diagrams to ensure accurate execution of tasks.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Work, Health and Safety systems, identifying risks and implementing controls to minimize hazards.
- Conduct thorough condition assessments of urban drains, water and wastewater infrastructure, including pressure mains, gravity mains, services, manholes, pits, hydrants, valves, meters, and more.
- Develop and implement traffic management strategies, selecting and implementing traffic control plans to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Plan works ahead, set goals, and communicate effectively within the team to achieve shared objectives.
- Promote a collaborative and supportive team culture, contributing to a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Holding a General Construction Induction Card (White Card) and relevant experience in operating and maintaining urban drains, water & wastewater infrastructure.
- The ability to work an on-call roster outside of normal working hours, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- A commitment to safety, with a focus on maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues.
- A Certificate III in Water Operations, Civil Construction or equivalent experience, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills in related fields.
- Current Safe Work near Powerlines Training and Traffic Controller training, enhancing your ability to manage complex situations safely.
- Implement a Traffic Control Training Plan training, further developing your expertise in traffic management.
- A Confined Spaces Certificate of Competency, showcasing your ability to work safely in confined spaces.
- Excavator and Backhoe (Class LE & LB) Licence, reflecting your proficiency in operating heavy machinery.
- A Current HR Drivers Licence, emphasizing your ability to navigate various road conditions safely.
