Spoil Management Specialist

The North-South Corridor in Adelaide is a complex project involving road and bridge construction, as well as the installation of mechanical and electrical systems over 4kms of twin three lane tunnels.

This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, project management skills, and environmental awareness to ensure that spoil is dealt with safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally compliant manner.

The Spoil Management Specialist plays a critical role in managing all activities related to spoil handling, transportation, and disposal from construction projects.

This involves overseeing and coordinating the spoil management plan, including excavation, loading, haulage, and disposal activities, ensuring adherence to relevant environmental regulations and alliance policies.

The specialist works closely with the project team to identify suitable disposal locations and methods, including recycling or reuse options, and liaises with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure proper documentation and compliance.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Developing and implementing the spoil management plan, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies to minimize environmental impact.
  • Liaising with contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with spoil management requirements.
  • Monitoring and reporting on spoil volumes and types, including investigation and resolution of issues such as contamination or transportation challenges.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to site personnel regarding spoil handling and disposal.
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives to optimize spoil management practices.
About You:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering; 2+ years post-qualification experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation and best practices related to excavation and waste management.
  • Industry experience in road, bridges, and/or tunnelling projects with direct experience in spoil management preferred.
  • Advanced commercial acumen, including cost reduction and meeting budgets.
