Senior Design Engineer Role Summary

The role requires a highly motivated individual who can work effectively as part of a team, contributing to the delivery of large-scale engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safety through design and actively participate in hazard review meetings to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Perform site surveys and collaborate with site teams as required to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop concept and preliminary designs based on tender information to meet project requirements.
  • Generate and review general arrangement drawings, substation layouts, single-line diagrams, and related documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare and refine technical specifications for designs and equipment to meet project needs.
  • Carry out design calculations to support plant design, including switchroom blast pressure calculations, busbar sizing, short-circuit calculations, cable thermal and mechanical force calculations, and more.
  • Ensure timely delivery, effective requirements management, and a 'right-first-time' approach to minimize project delays and costs.
  • Achieve key performance indicators for design quality and on-time delivery to meet project objectives.
  • Comply with project documentation, employer requirements, and industry standards to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Chartered status as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a professional body such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).
  • Strong experience in EHV/HV substation plant design, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects within the power sector.
  • Full UK driving license to facilitate travel to project sites.
  • Health & Safety qualification desirable but not essential.
