
Environmental Compliance Manager

The role of the Environmental Compliance Specialist is pivotal in ensuring that environmental regulations are adhered to during the construction phase of energy projects across the United States. This position demands a high level of expertise, effective communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Develop and implement environmental training programs for construction personnel;
- Conduct thorough field inspections, monitoring, and survey work as required;
- Interact with regulatory staff, landowners, contractors, clients, and project members to facilitate agency notifications and ensure compliance;
- Review and execute project documents, providing guidance, support, and critical judgment on environmental compliance issues;
- Provide technical leadership, support, and direction to field staff, coordinating daily schedules and conducting morning meetings;
- Critically assess environmental conditions to evaluate potential impacts from construction;
- Evaluate potential issues ahead of construction activities;
- Oversee mitigation measures and conduct environmental sampling;
- Verify flagging of wetland boundaries, cultural and biological resources exclusion zones, refueling zones, etc.;
- Inspect and document compliance by preparing daily written reports with photo documentation;
- Participate in construction meetings and prepare documentation for variance requests;
- Evaluate restoration activities;
- Perform additional tasks assigned or required.
This specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining federal, state, and local environmental regulations throughout the construction process.
Requirements- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, but equivalent experience or a minimum of 6 years of relevant construction experience is also acceptable;
- 4+ years of environmental inspection, monitoring, or permitting experience specific to linear and/or other energy infrastructure projects is required;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as negotiation and conflict resolution skills;
- Proficient technical skills, including Microsoft Office programs and digital cameras, are necessary;
- Knowledge of environmental sampling methods is required;
- Ability to travel extensively and work 40 to 70+ hours per week in a physically demanding position is necessary.
This role requires meticulous oversight by highly skilled individuals stationed in the field throughout construction to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
