Environmental Sustainability Specialist

The primary function of this role is to oversee environmental regulatory compliance, ensuring that all projects adhere to applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with project teams and external consultants to develop effective Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESHIA) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP).
  • Implement and monitor regulatory compliance, adhering to established environmental management plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the SHE Manager to support environmental and risk activities, as well as planning initiatives.
  • Secure and track necessary project permits and approvals.
  • Integrate Environmental, Social, and Health (ESH) standards into project design and execution.
  • Provide guidance to EPC contractors on the development and implementation of environmental and risk plans.
  • Review and monitor environmental performance and EMP implementation.
  • Conduct site inspections and report any compliance issues identified.
  • Prepare internal and external reports regarding environmental matters.
  • Coordinate training, technical expertise, and stakeholder communication related to environmental and social aspects.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a comparable position.
  • University degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in environmental and/or socioeconomic and/or health fields, preferably within construction or extractive industry projects.
  • Knowledge of external project financing and specific country regulations would be beneficial.

This role focuses on coordinating EMP implementation, providing assistance with EMP implementation, conducting routine inspections/assessments, investigating, recording, and reporting identified environmental compliance initiatives and non-compliance situations, ensuring timely completion and submission of EMP implementation/monitoring/reporting forms and documents, and preparing internal regulatory compliance stewardship reports.
